The Architect I like – Ar. Anupama Kundoo by Poorni Raju

Anupama Kundoo is an architect, author, and researcher and she started her architecture career in 1990 and her strength in architecture is material selections. She was born in Pune and her architectural journey started at J.J. College of Architecture, Bombay. She is one of the known women Architects in India. She got her doctoral degree from the Technical University of Berlin in 2008.

She is a researcher in material, which is based on reducing the environmental impact of the building. Her research and innovative design and material approach toward architecture are truly supported in developing the building techniques, which helps to integrate the energy and water-efficient infrastructure solution. finally, it creates better prototypes that are environmentally sound and socio-economically beneficial buildings.

Anupama Kundoo’s beautiful vision is toward the natural look finish of the material and smart building construction techniques. It is reflected in her thesis topic is based on “Urban Eco-Community: Design and analysis for sustainability. She started practicing her concept from her college days.

Her Design ideology is using locally available material, and then she did her research on the material which is suited to that particular climate, design approach, and appearance of the elements. Her material research topics are, Terracotta bricks, Terracotta block, Terracotta trapez, Terracotta cone roof block, Terracotta fillers, Recycle glass, Rammed earth construction, Ferro cement prefabricated easy WC, Colour in cement, Books, Baked – Insitu Earth House.

The Wall House, Auroville by Anupama Kundoo:

The wall house is located in the planned city limits of Auroville. The wall house building is truly contemporary Architecture style. They have a proper fenestration for daylighting and ventilation. It creates a balance between the built-up space and the open space. The wall house is completely covered with terracotta fillers( pot filler), terracotta cone roofs, and an exposed brick wall. It creates the building more aesthetical and functional flow inside as well as outside.

This design techniques and material solution for the international socio-Economic needs and it has a low impact on the environment.
