Hackathon is an event where difficult situations are given to the group and are asked to solve it in a limited time. As a first step to encourage young architects, Collaborative.co.in, which is an exclusive co-working space for Architects planned to conduct a Hackathon-like event named “Archethon 21” in Chennai on 3rd April 2021.
It was an opportunity for young architects to come as a team and provide architectural design solutions for the interiors of Collaborative.co.in co-working space, sitting out of the premise itself. This collaborative.co.in is also the only co-working space for architects run by Senior Architects, Ar. Gnaneswaran & Ar Uma Chakkaravarthy have expertise in various streams of Architecture.
The teams were asked to do a live design for the interiors of the co-working space, considering the context, spatial, functional & emotional aspects, degree of innovation, and aesthetic qualities considering the limited budget available for the project in a stipulated time (9.30 am to 4.30 pm).
There are 6 dynamic teams of young architects who participated in the event. The team was diverse and represented by architects with 3-5 years of experience to final-year students of architecture.
The teams also had an opportunity to be mentored by senior architects Ar Vivek Anandan, Head of Design, Ascott International, and senior academician Ar Ramji, who guided them thru the design process. They gave them practical insights on the design aspects and making the design implementation worthy. The teams also had the opportunity to be mentored by Project management experts and Landscape experts.
At the end of the event, the design solution was judged by eminent Architects Ar Prasanna Pandian and Ar Muzakir Bijili on various criteria and parameters. All teams came out with extraordinary designs within the limited time and budgetary constraints that they had. A young team represented by final year students of architecture Aishwarya & Akshaya bagged the winning trophy and all participants got goodie gifts for their participation in the event.
